Once upon a time, our little prince turned 3!
And Daddy and I were so busy caring for the needs of 3 babies under 3 years that somewhere between the pure exhilaration and sleep deprivation of a new baby, we nearly forgot it was your special day (since we were neither keeping track of days nor dates). Yet, somehow even had you been more aware, I don’t think you would’ve minded. Our simple one. Our quiet one. Our thinker. Our independent little man. Our lover of nature.
We did of course end up celebrating you with a special late brunch out of the house, a swim day at the Emde Resort, cake and ice cream…. aaaand a trip to urgent care which thankfully was only due to the onset of a minor infection. Aside from not feeling your best, you don’t make much of a fuss about songs and presents.
Instead, you continue to beg for the outdoors, for nature. Every day. All day long. You looooove trees. It’s your favorite word these days and you recently discovered that some are perfect for climbing. I’ve never seen you light up so much as you did when I helped you perch yourself in between 2 big branches the other day at the park. You cackled and squealed with joy and wouldn’t stop grinning. You even hugged the tree tighter and more affectionately than you hug me. Yes I’m jealous 😉 You are the single reason (along with our painfully small bathroom situation) that I have even entertained the idea of moving 1 day (not even daddy could do that) to a place for you to spend your boyhood exploring, climbing trees, hearing God’s voice and seeing His mark in the natural beauty, to study the Classical Liberal Arts in an environment full of peace, open space and to learn the value of manual labor.
For now, as we enjoy the present in the city life, we give you water parks 😉
Happy Birthday to our favorite buddy bear!
Thank you for challenging me as a mother and an individual to love deeper and wider. You are such an incredible gift to me, to all 6 of us and to the world!
