Momma Mary

That’s what we call her in our home with so many littles. Spicy was so incredibly cute when I explained we were going to mass to honor Mary’s assumption..”oh yes, yes” she replied as if that was the only thing to do! πŸ˜‰

Tonight’s post points you to a blog I read regularly. She is a fantastic writer, a young(er than me) mom of 7, soon to be 8, 4 of which are adopted from a 3rd world country, 2 of which have special needs. Wow! Talk about pouring herself into the least of us, the most weak and helpless?! Her life of service and living out the gospel inspires me and challenges me as a mother and a Christian. Anywho, since I have Protestant friends and family (and in all honesty, was a former Protestant myself in heart, masked in Catholic practice based in ignorance) I thought thereΒ might be people reading this interested in all of this Marian feast/ holy days Catholic jibberish πŸ˜‰

Just Showing Up on the Assumption of Mary

And since it may not happen for another 10 years, (especially since we have been doing the mass in shifts lately), I have to record that the kids did fantastic tonight for the hour + long solemnity! Other than Soren’s loud babbling, Dean and I exchanged so many smiles as the girls sat quietly, reverently genuflected in front of Jesus’s tabernacle, held Soren, fed him snacks, tried to tell him to be quiet, participated and obeyed so well! We were so proud (& perhaps a little shocked!) so I just gotta soak up the moment because I know it’s a rare one! πŸ˜‰

And because no post is complete without a picture, here is an oldie that is sustaining me (& of course the priest’s reflection/homily tonight on the strength of Mary helps – wow she was 1 tough woman! just watch ‘The Passion‘ if you have any doubts) I seem to hit a wall around this time in each pregnancy where the end just doesn’t seem in sight (or not close enough for my impatience) and I get a bit discouraged. I am, however, very excited thinking about another winter baby. Something about a newborn at Christmas time is just awesome. And the fact that I can wear layers and layers of clothes to hide my post-pregnancy 6 month-pregnant-looking belly while I attempt to get in shape.Β  πŸ˜‰

  1. Hang in there, baby! (As if you have a choice!!) Seeing you as often as I get to in the summer and seeing you “endure” four pregnancies, I am amazed at your compusure, acceptance and lack of any negative or complaining comments. You just go about your business as mommy, wife, daughter, sister, housekeeper, project doer, cook, bather, butt wiper, soother, teacher, referee, multi tasker, gardener, weed puller,(and I’m sure I’ve missed at least a dozen more!!) while undergoing tremendous body changes, discomfort and concern for the well-being of the baby. God’s presence in your mind, heart and soul is as evident as your smile and consideration for others. Thank you for being a model on unconditional love for me! Love you, Dad
